Bake Sale

Being back at work for two days is just too much. It’s time for some treats.

This evening I pegged it up to Grand Central Station (you know how I love my activities there) for the World’s Largest Bake Sale – a one-day event organised by celebrity chef Sandra Lee, and co-chaired by other famous foodies, including Martha Stewart and Mario Batali.

As well as doing my belly a lot of good, the event was good for my conscience – and the nation’s kids. All treats cost $5 and the funds will be going to the No Kid Hungry campaign, which aims to beat childhood hunger in America, and the Food Bank for New York City.

Oh, and because it was an all-day event (from 10 until 7), with more than 30 New York vendors and no doubt tens of thousands of people passing through – it set a world record for the largest bake sale. So I’m pretty sure that makes me a Guinness World Record Holder.

Anyway, on to the snacks.

There were rustic cookies, fluffy cupcakes and individually wrapped blondies. Trays and trays of the stuff. I particularly admired the carrot-cake doughnuts, but I’m more of a savoury gal, so I opted for some feta pies.

Oh okay, and some chocolates.

The sugar definitely spread some smiles among the usually-disgruntled commuters. And everything was sooo goood.
