BowlingTonight I headed up to Frames at Port Authority to take part in a bowling league for media types. With several Mail colleagues, I took on the likes of the BBC, NBC and Nickelodeon on the lanes… and did terribly. I’m definitely somebody that requires some senior bowling tips whenever I hit the lanes.

We knew the general aim was to chuck a ball along the ground in the direction of the pins, but short of that, we didn’t have much idea what was going on. As far as we gleaned, our scores were to be averaged and then compared with the average scores of other teams.

It meant we played with our colleagues and there was not much intermingling. While we met some people (NBC were a lovely bunch), it was less sociable than I’d have hoped. But – while it probably seems a nightmarish prospect for some – it was a good group activity to share with colleagues. I spend half my life with these people but we rarely just kick back.

As for my bowling skills… The more the beer tower was topped up, the more time my ball spent in the gutter. Some of my teammates put on a great show though, with Alex taking the crown.

Although it wasn’t that chatty tonight, I can see how it’d be a great way to meet people over time. And going back could surely only mean we’d be getting better scores.

I can only do better than this, to be fair.
