Snowy Prospect Park

Snowy Prospect Park

You know what? I’ve been seriously selfish this holiday season. The whole time I’ve been thinking about how best to get myself in the Christmas spirit, and I’ve failed to make sure Georgia gets the same treatment.

Georgia is Ryan’s eight-year-old Shepherd-mix – and she is such a beauty. I’m sure Ryan is well aware by now that Georgia is among my top five favorite things about him.

While he was snoozing off his night shift, I decided to take her to Prospect Park in Brooklyn, where FIDO was holding a Christmas event for dogs: ‘Bark! The Herald Angels Sing’. We trekked through the snow and arrived to a crowd of dog owners and their pets – many of which were in costume or cosy coats – by the Picnic House.

Georgia was a little apprehensive at first, but we agreed that we should start queuing for a picture with Santa.

Afterwards, FIDO gave her a goodie back filled with treats and a cute bandana. I didn’t think it was possible, but she looked even more of a beauty.

Then we decided to join the Christmas carol sing-along. The organizers had worked hard to produce a booklet filed with carols that had been amended to feature dogs – the lyrics were hilarious (I’ll type some up when I find the booklet…). The sing-along wasn’t as central to the event as I thought it’d be, but we still grabbed some lyrics and joined the small group of singers.

After laughing at a few of the dogs’ ridiculous outfits, we decided to go for a run in the snow. FIDO works to make sure dogs can run leash-free in the park and Georgia took full advantage – and even made some friends.

Tired out and with the snow falling even faster, we decided to head back to her house for some warmth – and to show Ryan her lovely new neckerchief. Curling up in her new Christmas bed, similar to the once seen on the JugDog Bed guide, we’ve had a lovely day.

Christmas isn’t just for humans, guys. Thanks for a lovely day, Georgia!
