Ward Pound Ridge ReservationWhile I was tied to my desk in Manhattan yesterday, Ryan was exploring trails, peeking into caves and filling his lungs with fresh air at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation. Despite my jealousy, I was excited to see his pictures at the end of the day – and I thought they were too good for him to keep to himself.

So this is a sort of guest blog post: ‘Today’s the Day Ry…’

As I got into affidavits and obituaries, he and Georgia got into the car and headed north to Westchester County. An hour-and-a-half later, they arrived (you can see how far it is from NYC here) and were glad to see that the park was near empty.

He and Georgia headed for Leatherman’s Loop, a trail that took them to an overlook and then to Leatherman’s Cave – big enough for one or two people to seek shelter.

It was plentiful though, and always let us know when we were getting close to the mud.’Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Ward Pound Ridge Reservation

‘While taking some pictures of the swamp lettuce, I heard rushing water upstream and decided to check it out. Leaving the trail, we came upon what I had heard, the biggest waterfall I had seen all day! In all honesty it wasn’t that big, but I got super giddy about getting to take pictures of it.’Ward Pound Ridge Reservation

Afterwards, they drove to Bedford, New York to snack on cheese sandwiches beneath the sun on the village green.

And then it was home to Brooklyn to meet me when I finally escaped the clutches of the office.

‘Definitely going back soon,’ he said.

Let’s hope he takes me next time, eh?
