Sadly, this week’s list isn’t crammed full of food, but here are some of the things I’ve loved about New York City this week:

NY3

1 :: Walking along the Esplanade while looking for a piece of the Berlin Wall. The skies above the Hudson were blue, the buildings in Jersey were shiny – and despite being so near the Financial District, it was surprisingly serene.

NY4

2 :: Amazing live music from Tuelo and her Cousins at the Bitter End.

3 :: Listening to the amazing David Samuels (above right) and Elizabeth Wurtzel at The Enclave a reading series where great writers share their work on the last Saturday of every month. It’s held on the music stage at the Cake Shop in the Lower East Side.

NY1

4 :: Walking through a very still and snowy Bryant Park in the evening (above left). It was bizarre how quiet it was considering it’s just a stone’s throw from Times Square.

5 :: This beautiful building (above right) on 43rd Street used by the Century Association, a private club.

6 :: A fascinating talk by Dr Gregory Berns, who studies what dogs think of us by giving them MRIs. The talk, which was an Emory alumni event, revealed how he trained the pups to keep still in the MRI machines – and it was predictably very cute. (His book is next on my list.) I love being in a city where these talks happen!

NY5

7 :: Walking on crunchy snow (before it turned icy) in my neighborhood in Brooklyn. Everything looks so lovely until the sludge arrives!

8 :: Admiring Grace Church (above right) on the corner of Broadway and 9th Street. I’m always amazed how NYC fits these giant buildings into little nooks, and this one looks particularly cosy.

NY2

9 :: After-work drinks at McSorley’s – the oldest Irish Tavern in NYC, which only serves dark or light ale with a side of attitude from the bartenders. (I dare you to ask for a white wine like one of my colleague did, haha.)

10 :: A quiet moment with delicious coffee and my book (well, my Kindle app) at Irving Farm Coffee Roasters on Orchard Street (below). It’s always busy there but they have a secret downstairs section perfect for hiding from the snow.
