Being in New York means you get to meet great people like Lindsay Ellyn, a singer-songwriter who’s just released her first EP. Today Lindsay was filming the final scenes for a music video for Somebody Love Those Girls (my favourite on the EP) so I went along to help out.
The song is about women who yearn to be loved, and the video follows a young woman wanting what everyone else has. In the scene we filmed, she imagines herself in the place of one of her friends – a happy mum-to-be celebrating her baby shower.
Three other girls and I joined the expectant mother (played by a model with a faux bump named Carina) and the main actress (Mayan, who was amazing) at an apartment in the Lower East Side to play doting friends. The place was decked out with balloons, presents and punch, as well as lots of lights, cameras and a mini makeup table.
After we were made ‘camera ready’, the crew placed lights around us and we got to work. I watched wide-eyed at the present opening and grabbed Carina’s belly with glee – before we did the same thing from lots of different camera angles.
This was a great way to spend the afternoon out of the rain and it was so interesting to see the process of putting together a music video, even if it was just a tiny part of that process. I cannot wait to see the final product!
But for now, you can check out Lindsay’s EP here.
