In this age of Netflix and DVR (that’s Sky Plus to you Brits), video stores are becoming obsolete. But one shop in Williamsburg – Videology – knows that if you throw in a bar, boozy milkshakes and classic movies, you’re going to be on to a winner.
Tonight they were showing Back To The Future, which Ryan and I reckoned was perfect for Saturday date night. As tickets were free, and because the movie is such a favorite, we arrived half an hour before showtime and stocked up on film-themed drinks. We both opted for The Delorean – a coke float with bourbon. Ooh they were strong.
As we grabbed seats at the wooden tables, the end of Lost Boys played. It’s been decades since I saw it and it made me want to see it again asap. Then Back To The Future began.
Table service meant that those boozy milkshakes kept coming as we followed the antics of Marty McFly. Honestly, the film didn’t feel dated at all. And we all laughed just as hard as if we were watching it for the first time.
This was such a great thing to do for a date night. A relaxed atmosphere and a brilliant excuse to see an old favorite movie. I’m not too sure how many DVDs they manage to rent out, but if they carry on with such lovely evenings, this store isn’t going anywhere.
