Tonight I headed to the Lower East Side for a Vice party, which they threw to celebrate their new MMA section. My friend River works there, so I joined him, Noah and Taylor for some beers and dancing.
This is Vice, so I was pretty petrified – mostly that I’d be too old and too uncool. I expected people with rubber suits and uncomfortable-looking piercings swimming through clouds of Mary J. And a party like this:
As it turned out, everyone was normal and the crowd was made up of a real mixture of people. Even better than that, it was free and with an open bar… and even better than that? There was a performance by Ghostface Killah from the Wu Tang Clan. He was joined by Sheek Louch.
I haven’t seen a hip hop concert since I was a teenager and it’s not the sort of music I’d sit and listen to in my room, but it was so much fun. Lots of shouting, lots of dancing, lots of laughing – oh yeah, and a little whiff of Mary J, too.
What a great night; it definitely made me re-think my judgments of Vice – it was just so inclusive. Thanks for the invite River, Taylor and Noah!
