‘Tis the season for outdoor food markets and because I’ve obviously not done enough food posts recently, after work I headed to Madison Square Eats – a snug food market opposite the Flatiron building.
I’d never heard of the market until Meghan, who lives close to the park, told me about it – and promised me there would be Arancini.
It’s much, much smaller than Smorgasburg, which probably means ridiculous crowds at the weekends, but it was perfect for a post-work snack on a Monday. And as it’s right by the park, you could stock up and then have a picnic.
We eyed ice cream sandwiches and crepes before going for the Arancini – Ragu for Meghan, pesto for me – at $4 each. For those of you who’ve not yet had your life transformed, they’re breadcrumb-covered risotto balls, and these ones were the artwork of the Arancini Bros in Bushwick. Delicious.
The market is happening for the month of May. I won’t be heading there at the weekend – I don’t think I’d be keen to queue in such a mini space – but I will definitely be going back. Thanks for the suggestion, Meghan!
Madison Square Eats runs until May 31 from 11am until 9pm. You can check out the vendors here.
