I’ve been doing a lot of stuff for a long time now (see how well I sell it?) and I know this blog can be a little un-user friendly if you’re looking for things to do. So every Friday, I’m going to give you a few suggestions for the weekend. You in?

1 :: Saturday is National Grilled Cheese Day! Don’t brie forgetting it now, it’s too Gouda to miss. Last year I celebrated at the glorious Little Muenster in the Lower East Side and munched on a delicious Asiago and butternut squash sandwich.

Other places to try are Melt Shop (Midtown or 26th Street), Noorman’s Kil (Williamsburg) or the Morris Grilled Cheese Truck (check the website for location). And over in Red Hook, there’s a free sandwiches and live music event at Brooklyn Slate Company between noon and 4pm.

2 :: Down in Georgia, it’s Masters week and there are plenty of ways to embrace golf up here too. Why not book the driving range at Chelsea Piers or give mini golf a go in Tribeca?

3 :: It’s going to be a warmer weekend (see below), which means you should definitely go for a walk. Yes, it sounds simple, but the fact that New York is so walkable is my favorite thing about it – and the best way to welcome spring.

Why not take a walk through one of my favorite parks – Hudson River Park (along the Hudson for views of the New Jersey skyline), the Brooklyn Heights Promenade (for unrivaled views of the Manhattan skyline), the High Line (because it’s always a treat) or Prospect Park (to really breathe in some fresh air and space)?

4 :: Before you do, pick up a drink from my favorite coffee spot right now. I am in love with Third Rail Coffee (locations on 10th Street in the East Village and Sullivan Street in Greenwich Village). I don’t want to be one of those coffee knobs, but honestly, it’s smooth, silky and unlike any cup I’ve had here.

5 :: Then on Saturday night, see some terrible movies at the Bad Film Fest at Cloud City in Williamsburg. One of the movies, ’30 With Josie’ has the following blurb: ‘She’s cute, she’s successful, she’s confident. She’s a single lady dating in the city. Why do men run? Find out here.’ I might just have to.

6 :: On Sunday, two of my favorite bookshops, McNally Jackson and the Housing Works, are hosting the Downtown Literary Festival. There are signings, readings and discussions at both bookstores, as well as at Bowery Poetry club.

Particular highlights: How Open Is New York City? (a discussion about living here as a non-Native New Yorker) and the Greatest 3-Minute Bad Apartment Stories (short stories about rats and bad roommates).

7 :: Luna Park at Coney Island opens for its summer season on Sunday. While it might still be a bit chilly for my liking, the first 100 people queuing for the famed Cyclone get to ride for free. The ride opens at noon so get there a little before. And hold on tight.

8 :: And finally :: Get your pins out! When I was at elementary school, my teacher told me it was only summer uniform weather once it went past 17C (62F) and I’ve stuck to that rule ever since. This weekend temperatures are forecast to reach 19C (66F), so time to ditch those tights/scarves/long johns we’ve had on all winter and don light jackets and summer frocks instead.
